BMW will be joining the three-row full-size luxury SUV game in 2018, by adding an impressive--and impressively-sized--new SAV to its future vehicle lineup. The 2018 BMW X7 even made Car & Driver's exclusive list of "25 Cars Worth Waiting For".

While the current lineup of BMW X Series SAVs (Sports Activity Vehicles) has long been full of attractive options for both lone drivers and small families, families with multiple children--or even just very demanding shoppers who need a truly versatile interior--came up short when looking for a seven-passenger vehicle.

The three-row luxury SUV is an extremely popular option right now, with gas prices hovering low and the demand for SUVs going up and up, and BMW is putting their own unique spin on a classic design.

The 2018 BMW X7 will compete with other luxury seven-passenger SUVs like:

  • Mercedes-Benz GLS
  • Audi Q7
  • Acura MDX
  • Infiniti QX80
  • Lexus LX

The new model will be built on a strong, rear-wheel-drive platform to best use its size and power to an advantage. We don't have any confirmed powertrain specs or numbers just yet, but can expect to see classic BMW technology like TwinPower Turbo V-6 or V-8 engines--there may be a plug-in hybrid BMW X7 variant in the future, as well. Only time will tell.

The new seven-seater BMW X7 is scheduled to be built in BMW's South Carolina plant, meaning that it may be more affordable to buy in America than in any other country.

We don't expect the 2018 BMW X7 to go on sale until sometime in 2018, so if you have your heart set on it, you've got a little while to wait.
