Born May 5, 1968, John Desmond spent the majority of his childhood in Detroit where he learned a love for the automotive industry from his father, a General Motors executive.

Desmond studied business at nearby Oakland University, offsetting the cost of tuition by working for his older brother, who was sales manager at a Chevrolet dealership in Baltimore. During his college years, Desmond spent each summer working at the store as a sales associate.

In 1991, Desmond graduated from Oakland University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance. Having acquired a passion for the automotive industry, he returned to Baltimore and accepted his first full-time job as a manager trainee at a local Chevrolet dealership .

Desmond moved to Charleston, S.C., in 1994 when he was hired by Hendrick Automotive Group as the Sales Manager at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. He remained in that role until 1998 when he was promoted to General Sales Manager at Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte, N.C.

In 2004, Desmond was named General Manager of Hendrick BMW/MINI on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte. Since that time, Hendrick BMW has earned BMW's highest "Center of Excellence" honor a manufacturer record eight consecutive years. In 2011, Hendrick BMW finished as the highest-ranked BMW store in the country, based on sales, service and customer satisfaction. Hendrick MINI in 2010 was named the "MINI Motoring Cup" winner, earning MINI's most prestigious award.

In October 2011, Desmond was one of three Hendrick Automotive Group employees promoted to the new position of Market Area Vice President and Executive General Manager. In his new role, Desmond oversees operations at Hendrick BMW/MINI, Hendrick Motors of Charlotte, Hendrick Lexus and the Hendrick Luxury Auto Mall at Northlake, all in the greater-Charlotte area.

Desmond and wife Carmen have a daughter, Olivia. The family resides in Charlotte.


CLIFF SPANGLER

Birth date:    Dec. 11, 1969              Hometown:    Encino, Calif.

After attending the University of California, Los Angeles, and graduating with a degree in Sociology, a vacation to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina changed Cliff Spangler's life. Spangler and his wife fell in love with the area and decided to raise a family in Charlotte, N.C.

After moving east, Spangler joined Hendrick Automotive Group in 1998 as a sales associate at Hendrick Lexus on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte. A consistent top performer, Spangler achieved the 2003 Pinnacle Award from Hendrick Automotive Group for being the company's top sales associate of highline vehicles.

The following year, Spangler was promoted to New Car Manager at Hendrick BMW, also in Charlotte. Spangler's department's sales increased and helped Hendrick BMW become the best-selling luxury brand in the greater Charlotte area. The dealership has since earned eight consecutive BMW Center of Excellence awards and was named the number-one BMW dealership in the country in 2011, based on sales, service and customer satisfaction.

Spangler showed promise as a team leader and was promoted in 2012 to General Manager of Hendrick BMW Northlake located at the Hendrick Luxury Auto Mall at Northlake in Charlotte.

Spangler and wife Elizabeth have a daughter, Morgan. The family resides in Charlotte.
